About the Pharmacist Assistant Position
Dis-Chem Pharmacies is looking for a qualified Post Basic Pharmacist Assistant to join its Southgate Pharmacy team on a fixed-term contract. The successful candidate will support the responsible pharmacist by providing pharmaceutical care and ensuring patients receive safe, accurate, and professional medication services.
This opportunity is ideal for registered Post Basic Pharmacist Assistants who are passionate about healthcare, customer service, and working in a retail pharmacy environment.
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will:
- Assist with the sale of Schedule 1 and Schedule 2 medicines.
- Support the preparation and compounding of non-sterile medicines.
- Assist with medicine manufacturing and repackaging.
- Manage the distribution and control of Schedule 1–5 medicines.
- Assist with ordering medicines up to Schedule 6 under authorised instruction.
- Read, prepare, and process prescriptions under pharmacist supervision.
- Capture prescription details accurately on the pharmacy system.
- Pick, pack, label, and prepare medication correctly.
- Explain the correct use of medication to patients.
- Process medical aid claims and resolve rejected claims.
- Assist with chronic, HIV/AIDS, and oncology medication authorisations.
- Maintain accurate patient profiles on the pharmacy system.
- Report stock shortages and discrepancies.
- Receive and merchandise pharmacy stock according to FEFO principles.
- Participate in stock takes.
- Maintain stock, cash, and asset control.
- Deliver excellent customer service at the dispensary and front shop.
Minimum Requirements
Applicants must have:
- Grade 12 (Matric).
- Post Basic Pharmacist Assistant qualification.
- Registration with the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC).
- Experience using Unisolv.
- Computer literacy in Microsoft Office.
- Strong numerical skills.
- Good command of English and a second language.
- Willingness to work retail hours.
Advantageous Qualifications and Experience
Preference may be given to candidates with:
- Retail or FMCG experience.
- Knowledge of SAP and E-Scripting.
- Knowledge of complementary medicine and family planning products.
- Ability to speak a third South African language.
