The Valterra Platinum Learner Miner learnership offers structured mining training at Amandelbult in Thabazimbi, Limpopo. The programme runs for 24–30 months and is advertised for 15 external candidates from Amandelbult host communities and/or eligible beneficiaries. Applications close on 16 November 2026.

Valterra Platinum Learner Miner eligibility

This intake is for suitably qualified unemployed community members. You must check the host-community or beneficiary requirement before preparing an application; it is not an unrestricted national intake for every Matric holder.

The education requirement is a Grade 12 certificate with a Bachelor Pass. The advert gives the subject wording as “60% Maths Literacy – 50% pure Maths will be advantageous”. It does not clearly separate the subject routes. Read that wording alongside your results and seek clarification from the recruitment team if your eligibility is uncertain.

The advert also lists South African citizenship, a valid ID, residence in host communities, medical fitness, good communication and no criminal record. Beneficiary applicants should clarify any uncertainty about how the residence condition applies to them.

Training and workplace expectations

You will combine theoretical learning with practical workplace exposure and mentoring by competent miners. The programme includes preparation for the DMRE Blasting Certificate examinations. Learners must complete assessments and logbooks and follow safety, health, environmental, quality and company requirements.

A stipend is included, although the amount is not stated. Completing the programme may lead to consideration for future entry-level Miner opportunities, depending on operational needs. It does not guarantee a permanent job.

Your application needs a CV with contact details and an email address, your Grade 12 certificate and a copy of your ID. Host-community applicants must attach proof of residence stamped by the relevant tribal office or municipality. Beneficiaries must include confirmation of dependence from a permanent employee.

Check that each attachment is readable and that your documents support the eligibility route you are using. An ordinary address entry in your CV does not replace the specifically requested proof of residence. Incomplete applications will be declined, according to the employer.
