The Border Management Authority (BMA) is inviting applications for 9 permanent Immigration Officer positions at the Maseru Bridge Port of Entry.
The successful candidates will be responsible for immigration law enforcement, document verification, risk and compliance activities, customer service and stakeholder relations at the port of entry.

Minimum Requirements
Applicants must have:
- Grade 12 / National Senior Certificate.
- An undergraduate qualification at NQF Level 6, recognised by SAQA, in:
- Social Science
- Law
- Security Studies
- Public Administration
- At least 3 years’ relevant experience.
- A valid driver’s licence.
- Customer service experience will be an added advantage.
- Flexibility to work different hours according to operational requirements.
- Willingness to work overtime when required.
Key Responsibilities
Immigration Law Enforcement
The Immigration Officer will:
- Conduct immigration inspections and document checks.
- Verify the identity and legal status of people entering or leaving South Africa.
- Enforce immigration laws and regulations.
- Conduct investigations into potential immigration violations.
- Gather intelligence and participate in intelligence-led operations.
- Conduct risk assessments.
- Prepare reports and maintain accurate records.
- Provide information and assistance to travellers and members of the public.
Customer Service
- Respond to customer requests promptly and professionally.
- Assess customer needs and ensure that queries are resolved appropriately.
- Provide assistance to travellers within established procedures and timeframes.
Risk and Compliance
- Enforce immigration legislation and approved protocols.
- Ensure compliance with BMA policies and procedures.
- Assist with mandatory reports and information submissions.
- Prepare reports for managers and assistant managers.
- Coordinate monthly and quarterly reports.
- Track deadlines, commitments and follow-ups.
- Process documentation within prescribed timeframes.
- Assist with fraud prevention and risk management.
- Support internal and external audit requirements.
- Maintain sound governance and compliance standards.
- Adhere to relevant laws, policies and Standard Operating Procedures.
Stakeholder Relations
The successful candidates will also:
- Build relationships with intelligence agencies and international organisations.
- Work with industry stakeholders to support information sharing.
- Assist efforts to combat illicit activities.
- Participate in BMA committees and task teams.
Knowledge Required
Candidates should have knowledge and understanding of:
- The Constitution of South Africa.
- Refugees Act.
- Immigration Act.
- Criminal Procedure Act.
- International treaties.
- Public Service Regulatory Framework.
- Acts administered by the relevant department.
- Border Management Authority Act, 2020.
- Public Administration Management Act.
- Protected Disclosures Act, 2000.
- Public Finance Management Act.
