About the Dis-Chem Security Guard Job

Dis-Chem Pharmacies is hiring a Security Guard for its security operations in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal.

The successful candidate will be responsible for protecting Dis-Chem employees, customers, property and assets by maintaining a safe and secure environment. The role involves access control, patrols, surveillance, incident reporting and responding to security and emergency situations.

Security Guard Responsibilities

Key duties include:

  • Monitor the premises and remain alert for suspicious activities.
  • Conduct regular patrols to identify and prevent security risks.
  • Control access for employees, customers, suppliers and visitors.
  • Search staff, suppliers, merchandisers and vehicles according to procedures.
  • Maintain security registers and occurrence books.
  • Monitor CCTV cameras and alarm systems.
  • Investigate and report unlawful entry, damage or suspicious incidents.
  • Protect company property and assets against theft and damage.
  • Follow opening and closing security procedures.
  • Ensure doors, windows and applicable water taps are secured after hours.
  • Report incidents to management and relevant authorities.
  • Contact police, emergency services or other authorities when required.
  • Assist during emergencies and evacuation procedures.
  • Maintain order at assembly points during evacuations.
  • Provide security and safety advice when required.
  • Take accurate notes of daily activities and unusual occurrences.
  • Respond quickly and appropriately to security incidents.
  • Follow Dis-Chem’s security procedures and applicable legislation.
  • Perform other security-related duties as instructed.

Minimum Requirements

Applicants must have:

  • Grade 12 / Matric or Senior Certificate.
  • Grade C PSIRA accreditation.
  • At least 3 years’ exposure to the retail industry, such as shopping malls or warehouses.
  • At least 1 year of previous experience in a similar security role is advantageous.
  • Knowledge of PSIRA requirements.
  • Fire emergency and relevant Health and Safety training/exposure.
  • Good English communication skills, including reading, writing and speaking.

Special Conditions

Candidates must:

  • Be PSIRA registered.
  • Hold Grade C PSIRA accreditation.
  • Be South African.
  • Successfully complete MIE screening, including criminal and credit checks.
  • Have a driver’s licence, reliable transport and PDP if deployed as a driver.
