About the Sales Clerk Job

AFGRI is looking for a motivated and customer-focused Sales Clerk (Retail) to join its Eeram branch. The successful candidate will support day-to-day retail operations by assisting customers, processing sales-related activities and maintaining effective stock control.

This role is ideal for someone with Grade 12 and at least one year of direct sales experience who enjoys working with customers and has good organisational and communication skills.

Key Responsibilities

Customer Service and Sales

  • Welcome and assist walk-in customers professionally.
  • Understand customer needs and provide suitable product information.
  • Ensure customers receive efficient and friendly service.
  • Promote additional and complementary products to increase sales.
  • Inform customers about available products and relevant promotions.
  • Respond to customer enquiries and resolve routine issues.
  • Build positive relationships with customers and encourage repeat business.

Stock Control

  • Monitor stock levels and identify products that need to be replenished.
  • Ensure required stock is ordered from suppliers or through procurement.
  • Receive stock and verify quantities against relevant documentation.
  • Check that received products have the correct pricing.
  • Conduct daily, weekly and monthly stock counts.
  • Report stock shortages, discrepancies or damaged products.
  • Maintain accurate stock records and support effective inventory management.
  • Ensure the retail area remains organised and properly stocked.

Retail Administration

  • Complete required sales and stock-related documentation.
  • Follow AFGRI Retail policies, procedures and controls.
  • Maintain accurate information on relevant systems.
  • Assist with general branch administration when required.
  • Ensure customer and stock information is handled accurately and responsibly.

Minimum Requirements

Applicants must have:

  • Grade 12 / Matric
  • At least 1 year of experience in a direct sales environment
  • Computer literacy
  • Good knowledge of customer service principles
  • An understanding of retail operations and stock control

Experience in an agricultural or retail environment may be advantageous.

What You Will Do in This Role

As a Sales Clerk, you will play an important role in ensuring customers receive quality service while supporting the branch’s sales and stock objectives. You will interact directly with customers, assist them with their purchases, promote suitable products and help maintain sufficient stock levels.

You will also be responsible for checking incoming stock and participating in regular stock counts. Accuracy is important because effective stock control helps prevent shortages, incorrect pricing and inventory discrepancies.
