Job Purpose (Representations Officer)

The successful candidates will adjudicate AARTO representations by investigating cases, applying relevant legislation, issuing decisions, and ensuring fair, objective, and lawful outcomes in accordance with RTIA policies and the AARTO Act.

Key Responsibilities

Successful applicants will be responsible for:

  • Contributing to operational plans within the Adjudications Unit.
  • Complying with RTIA policies and procedures.
  • Reviewing and adjudicating AARTO representations.
  • Investigating cases and verifying supporting information.
  • Requesting and assessing feedback from issuing authorities.
  • Approving or rejecting representations based on legislative requirements.
  • Issuing certificates of outcome.
  • Liaising with issuing authorities and external stakeholders.
  • Updating the National Contraventions Register (NCR).
  • Compiling reports on adjudication activities.
  • Providing affidavits or testimony in litigation relating to adjudicated cases.
  • Identifying opportunities to improve operational processes.

Minimum Requirements

Applicants applying for Representations Officer must have:

  • Matric (Grade 12) (NQF Level 4).
  • A National Diploma (NQF Level 6) in one of the following:
    • Road Traffic
    • Police
    • Police Management
    • Legal Studies
    • Or an equivalent qualification
  • A minimum of three years’ relevant work experience.
  • A valid Code B driver’s licence with no endorsements.

Added Advantages

  • A relevant Bachelor’s Degree (NQF Level 7).

Knowledge Requirements

Candidates should have extensive knowledge of:

  • Administrative Adjudication of Road Traffic Offences (AARTO) Act
  • National Road Traffic Act
  • Criminal Procedure Act
  • National Land Transport Act
  • Cross-Border Road Transport Act
  • Promotion of Administrative Justice Act (PAJA)
  • Promotion of Access to Information Act (PAIA)
  • Other legislation applicable to traffic and transport management
