About the Role
The successful candidates will assist with the maintenance and repair of NHBRC office buildings and facilities. Duties include plumbing, electrical maintenance, carpentry, painting, tiling, office renovations, equipment maintenance, contractor supervision, and ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations.
The role also involves supporting maintenance projects at the NHBRC’s Hatfield and Eric Molobi offices when required.
Key Responsibilities
As a General Assistant: Facilities Maintenance, you will:
- Perform general building maintenance and repairs.
- Assist with plumbing, electrical, carpentry, tiling, and painting work.
- Maintain heating, ventilation, air conditioning (HVAC), generators, lifts, and other building systems.
- Install and reconfigure office furniture and modular workspaces.
- Maintain maintenance equipment, tools, and inventory.
- Coordinate repairs and preventative maintenance.
- Monitor contractors and service providers.
- Conduct routine building inspections.
- Identify maintenance improvements.
- Support facilities projects and renovations.
- Assist with furniture removals.
- Ensure compliance with occupational health and safety regulations.
- Conduct workplace safety inspections.
- Act as a SHE Representative or First Aider if appointed.
- Assist with petty cash requests for maintenance work.
- Verify contractor work and sign off completed job cards.
- Assist with tender documentation and procurement processes.
- Support cleaning, gardening, waste management, and security teams.
- Deliver mail and assist with logistics-related duties.
- Provide excellent customer service to NHBRC staff and visitors.
Minimum Requirements
Applicants must have:
- Grade 12 (Matric).
- Minimum N4 Certificate (NQF Level 5) in a vocational discipline.
- At least three (3) years’ experience in facilities maintenance within a commercial or industrial environment.
- Practical skills in:
- Carpentry
- Plumbing
- Electrical maintenance
- Tiling
- Painting
Advantageous Qualifications
The following will be an added advantage:
- Trade Test Certificate in:
- Plumbing
- Electrical
- Mechanical
Required Skills
