Driver Level 3 Job Overview

The Gauteng Department of Health is hiring a Driver Level 3 at Chris Hani Baragwanath Laundry. The successful candidate will transport linen, staff, records and patients while ensuring that assigned vehicles are safe, clean and properly maintained.

This opportunity is suitable for an experienced driver who has a Code 10/C1 licence, valid PDP and at least three years of driving experience.

Minimum Requirements

Applicants applying for Driver Level 3 must have:

  • ABET Level 4 or Grade 10
  • Valid Code 10/C1 driver’s licence
  • Valid Professional Driving Permit (PDP)
  • At least 3 years’ driving experience
  • Willingness to undergo driver testing
  • Willingness to undergo medical surveillance where required

Experience in a similar environment or health entity will be an advantage.

Duties and Responsibilities

The Driver will be responsible for:

  • Transporting linen, staff, records and patients to authorised destinations.
  • Collecting and delivering clean and soiled linen.
  • Collecting clean linen from different hospital wards.
  • Transporting patients to various hospitals and on internal hospital trips.
  • Ensuring all deliveries and collections are signed for.
  • Reporting undelivered or uncollected linen to the supervisor or manager.
  • Checking fuel, water, oil and tyre condition before driving.
  • Completing vehicle inspection forms.
  • Reporting vehicle defects, dents, scratches and accidents immediately.
  • Completing accident reports when required.
  • Safeguarding vehicle keys, tools, spare wheel and jack.
  • Keeping the vehicle clean and in good condition.
  • Reporting low fuel levels at the end of the shift.
  • Completing vehicle lock books according to legislation.
  • Following the rotation roster.
  • Complying with Occupational Health and Safety requirements.
  • Attending approved meetings and training.
  • Providing professional assistance and guidance when handling enquiries.
  • Following lawful instructions from senior staff.
  • Adhering to required timelines and performance management processes.
