Driver Forklift Job Vacancy at Gold Fields

Gold Fields South Deep Gold Mine is looking for a Forklift Driver to join its Commercial Services: Warehouse team in Westonaria, Gauteng.

The successful candidate will safely operate forklifts to move, load, unload, stack and store materials. The role involves working in a mining environment and requires strict compliance with safety procedures and equipment operating standards.

Key Responsibilities

The Forklift Driver will be responsible for:

  • Operating forklifts safely at all times.
  • Loading and unloading delivery trucks and underground material cars.
  • Moving, stacking and storing materials according to procedures.
  • Conducting pre-use forklift inspections and reporting defects.
  • Performing basic equipment maintenance, including checking and topping up oils and water.
  • Conducting pre-task risk assessments before starting work.
  • Ensuring loads remain within approved weight, dimensions and positioning limits.
  • Following the mine’s Surface Traffic Management Plan.
  • Cleaning and safely parking the forklift at the end of each shift.
  • Reporting equipment problems and safety concerns to the supervisor.
  • Maintaining compliance with Safety, Health and Environmental standards.
  • Participating in scheduled and ad hoc shaft and infrastructure examinations and repairs.
  • Performing other duties required for the effective completion of the role.

Forklift Driver Requirements

Applicants must have:

  • Grade 12 or equivalent.
  • A valid Forklift Driver’s Licence.
  • A valid driver’s licence.
  • At least 2 years’ experience as a forklift operator in a mining environment.
  • An established personal safety record.
  • Good spoken and written English communication skills.
  • Strong teamwork and collaboration skills.
  • Problem-solving abilities.
  • Completion of a machine appreciation awareness programme.

Medical Requirements

Candidates must be medically fit for the position and working environment. The successful applicant will be required to undergo a risk-based medical examination at the Gold Fields Occupational Health Centre and pass a Heat Tolerance Screening test, as well as any other assessments required to determine suitability for the position.
