Claims Credit Officer Job Overview

The Department of Employment and Labour is inviting suitably qualified candidates to apply for three Claims Credit Officer positions at its Provincial Office in Limpopo.

The successful candidates will support the management and recovery of outstanding overpayments and maintain accurate records relating to claims and benefit payments. The role is suitable for candidates with a Grade 12/Senior Certificate who studied Accounting or Mathematics as a major subject.

Claims Credit Officer Requirements

Applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Grade 12/Senior Certificate.
  • Accounting or Mathematics must have been taken as a major subject.
  • 0–6 months of relevant experience.
  • Good numerical and analytical ability.
  • Computer literacy.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to plan, organise and manage time effectively.
  • Good interpersonal and financial management skills.

Knowledge Required

Candidates should have knowledge of:

  • Unemployment Insurance Act (UIA).
  • Unemployment Insurance Contributions Act (UICA).
  • Generally Recognised Accounting Practice (GRAP).
  • Generally Accepted Accounting Practice (GAAP).
  • Financial systems.
  • PFMA and Treasury Regulations.
  • Departmental financial policies and procedures.
  • Financial management processes and procedures.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

The Claims Credit Officer will be responsible for:

  • Collecting outstanding overpayment balances from clients.
  • Maintaining accurate overpayment debtor records.
  • Updating debtor information manually and electronically.
  • Monitoring payments relating to benefits made to clients.
  • Identifying and following up on outstanding amounts.
  • Ensuring financial records are accurately maintained.
  • Applying departmental financial management policies and procedures.
  • Supporting effective management of claims-related financial information.
