Bus Driver Job Overview

Curro is looking for a Bus Driver to join Courtney House in Brooklyn. The successful candidate will be responsible for transporting learners and teachers safely while also assisting with general maintenance, gardening, health and safety, and facility support.

This is a full-time opportunity for a reliable, energetic and responsible driver who is comfortable performing both driving and general worker duties.

Key Responsibilities

Learner Transportation

  • Drive the school bus along prescribed routes and according to schedules.
  • Pick up and drop off learners at designated stops.
  • Transport learners and teachers on school trips.
  • Plan suitable routes and stops when required.
  • Maintain order and appropriate discipline among learner passengers.

General Worker Duties

  • Provide general maintenance and facility support.
  • Receive and respond to facility maintenance requests.
  • Conduct daily checks of school facilities.
  • Perform basic maintenance tasks, including plumbing where required.
  • Report repairs and maintenance requirements to the Facilities Manager.
  • Check maintenance supplies and report shortages.
  • Safely store and maintain maintenance tools.
  • Assist with security, access control and traffic management.

Garden Maintenance

  • Follow the daily work roster.
  • Maintain lawns, flower beds and gardens.
  • Keep garden areas clean and well maintained.
  • Report gardening requirements to the Facilities Manager.
  • Check gardening supplies and report shortages.
  • Store and maintain gardening tools.

Health and Safety

  • Conduct daily safety and operational inspections of the bus.
  • Report mechanical problems and required repairs.
  • Check fuel, oil, tyres and batteries and maintain them as required.
  • Conduct safety drills as required by law.
  • Complete required safety reports.
  • Keep the vehicle clean and in safe operating condition.
  • Attend safety, first aid and training meetings when required.

Record Keeping

  • Complete mileage reports and other required records.
  • Record passenger numbers when required.

Requirements

Applicants must have:

  • A valid EC1 or C1 driver’s licence for heavy motor vehicles up to 16,000 kg.
  • A valid Professional Driving Permit (PDP).
  • Fluent English communication skills.
  • Ability to perform general worker duties.
  • Experience driving a school bus or similar vehicle is advantageous.
  • Ability to perform various driver-related tasks.
  • Good punctuality.
  • A helpful and energetic attitude.
  • Reliability and responsibility.
  • Willingness to work overtime when required.
