Minimum Requirements
Applicants must have:
- Grade 12 / Matric
- At least 6 months’ cashier or till-operation experience
- Computer literacy, including MS Office
- Good numerical skills
- Strong command of English
- Basic customer service skills
- Willingness and ability to work retail hours

Casual Cashier Duties
The Casual Cashier will be responsible for:
- Processing customer purchases accurately.
- Receiving payments by cash, bank card, vouchers, coupons and other approved payment methods.
- Operating and maintaining the cash till and cash drawer.
- Processing refunds and authorised merchandise exchanges.
- Processing customer loyalty cards and participating partner rewards programmes.
- Ensuring cash is securely placed in the drop safe according to company procedures.
- Keeping till money safe and secure at all times.
- Ensuring personal till codes and passwords remain confidential.
- Ensuring outgoing stock, items and scripts are correctly scanned and paid for.
- Reporting suspicious behaviour and security concerns to management.
- Handling customer queries regarding merchandise.
- Reporting customer complaints and compliments to the supervisor or store management.
- Staying informed about current promotions and sales.
- Following Dis-Chem customer-service and security procedures.
- Ensuring line voids and price changes are properly authorised.
- Maintaining a professional relationship with customers.
- Following all company standard operating procedures.
Special Conditions
Applicants must:
- Be willing and able to work retail hours.
- Have reliable transport and/or live close to the store.
- Be a South African citizen.
- Have clear credit and criminal records.
