The Shop Assistant / Cashier is responsible for delivering excellent customer service while efficiently handling point-of-sale operations and supporting merchandising activities in the store.

This is a customer-facing role where employees are expected to represent the Clicks brand professionally, assist shoppers and ensure that customers have a positive shopping experience.

Clicks Shop Assistant / Cashier Responsibilities

Successful candidates will be responsible for:

Cashier and POS Duties

  • Operate the point-of-sale system efficiently.
  • Scan merchandise accurately.
  • Process customer payments.
  • Handle cash safely and responsibly.
  • Action Clicks ClubCard rewards where applicable.
  • Maintain a high level of accuracy during transactions.
  • Complete point-of-sale activities within required timeframes.

Customer Service

  • Welcome and assist customers in a friendly and professional manner.
  • Provide excellent customer service throughout the shopping experience.
  • Act as a Clicks brand ambassador.
  • Assist customers with queries and product information.
  • Ensure customers receive accurate information about products and promotions.
  • Build positive relationships with customers.

Sales and Promotions

  • Promote the Clicks ClubCard programme.
  • Encourage customers to join ClubCard.
  • Help achieve ClubCard participation targets.
  • Inform customers about current promotions, events and offers.
  • Support store sales by identifying opportunities to promote relevant products.

Merchandising and Store Operations

  • Maintain merchandising standards in the store.
  • Ensure products and displays are presented according to visual merchandising guidelines.
  • Perform general housekeeping duties.
  • Support stock management procedures.
  • Keep the store environment clean, organised and customer-friendly.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of products and product ranges.

Clicks Shop Assistant / Cashier Requirements

Education

The essential requirement is:

  • Grade 12 / Matric

The following are desirable:

  • 50% in Mathematics at Grade 12 level.
  • 50% in English at Grade 12 level.

Experience

Previous experience in a customer-facing position within a retail or FMCG store environment is desirable but not listed as essential.
