Purpose of the Storeman Job

The Storeman will be responsible for the effective management of food, beverage, resale and other stock within the operation.

The role requires strong attention to detail and the ability to manage perishable and non-perishable stock while maintaining accurate records and complying with food safety and company procedures.

Storeman Duties and Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

Stock Management

  • Monitor stock levels and ensure sufficient stock is available.
  • Receive stock from suppliers according to company policies and procedures.
  • Issue stock from fridges, freezers, dry stores and chemical stores according to specifications.
  • Ensure correct quantities and portion sizes are issued.
  • Conduct weekly stock takes.
  • Ensure proper stock rotation.
  • Date-mark products correctly.
  • Monitor product quality and report any concerns.
  • Manage wastage and leftovers effectively.
  • Protect and safely store all products and equipment.
  • Plan stock requirements for upcoming days and report shortages.

Ordering and Receiving

  • Administer orders for food, resale and beverage items.
  • Receive and check deliveries from suppliers.
  • Ensure delivered stock meets required quality and quantity standards.
  • Capture and process daily invoices on Tsebo Source.
  • Report discrepancies and product quality issues where necessary.

Storeroom and Food Safety

  • Keep storerooms, refrigerators and freezers clean and organised.
  • Stack products correctly and safely.
  • Maintain high hygiene standards in accordance with Tsebo requirements.
  • Ensure legal health and safety requirements are followed.
  • Maintain appropriate storage conditions for perishable and non-perishable products.

Costing and Administration

  • Assist with preparing and controlling the store budget.
  • Work towards efficient stock usage and minimum unnecessary expenditure.
  • Ensure stock and meal costing is completed accurately and on time.
  • Maintain accurate stock records and documentation.
  • Complete proper handovers when required.

Customer and Supplier Relations

  • Build and maintain positive supplier and client relationships.
  • Respond appropriately to customer complaints and compliments.
  • Report customer concerns to management and take corrective action where possible.
  • Work effectively as part of a team.
  • Provide assistance at other local units when required.
  • Perform reasonable additional duties requested by management.

Requirements for the Storeman Job

Applicants should have:

  • Matric / Grade 12.
  • A relevant tertiary qualification or equivalent level of competence is advantageous.
  • 2–5 years of experience in a similar Storeman, stock control or storekeeping role.
  • Experience in the hospitality industry or contract catering.
  • Experience working with food and beverage stock.
  • Proven costing and stock control/storekeeping experience is advantageous.
  • Good computer literacy.
