The South African National Parks is inviting applications for 15 Skilled Environmental Monitor positions within the Biodiversity and Social Projects Programme at the iconic Kruger National Park.

This is an excellent opportunity for unemployed South Africans seeking practical environmental monitoring and administration experience while contributing to conservation initiatives in one of Africa’s leading national parks.

The positions are offered on a fixed-term contract ending 31 March 2027 under the Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP).

Skilled Environmental Monitors Position Details

Skilled Environmental Monitors (15 Posts)

  • Location: Kruger National Park – Marula Region
  • Contract Type: Fixed-Term Contract
  • Contract Duration: Up to 31 March 2027
  • Salary: R311 per day

Minimum Requirements

To qualify for this opportunity, applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Grade 12 (Matric) Certificate
  • Minimum of 1 year administrative experience
  • Computer literacy with knowledge of Microsoft Office packages
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficiency in English and at least one other official South African language
  • Understanding of Occupational Health and Safety principles
  • Good physical health and fitness
  • No criminal record
  • Valid Police Clearance Certificate or proof of application
  • Willingness to work weekends, public holidays and overtime when required
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including after-hours duties
  • Successful candidates must undergo a medical fitness assessment

Key Responsibilities

Successful candidates will be responsible for:

Environmental Monitoring

  • Collecting and recording field data
  • Capturing environmental monitoring information
  • Assisting with biodiversity monitoring activities

Administration Support

  • Maintaining timesheets and attendance records
  • Updating payment schedules
  • Managing logbooks and reports
  • Taking meeting minutes
  • Filing and document management

Operational Support

  • Assisting Biodiversity and Social Projects administrators
  • Procuring Environmental Monitor uniforms
  • Coordinating communication with Rangers and Duty Managers
  • Capturing overtime records for Environmental Monitors
  • Performing additional duties assigned by supervisors
