About the Retail Store Assistant Job

Dis-Chem Pharmacies has an opportunity for a Retail Store Assistant at its Carlswald store in Johannesburg. The successful candidate will assist with the overall management of the store and ensure that operational, customer service and administrative duties are performed according to company policies and procedures.

This Retail Store Assistant job is suitable for candidates with Grade 12 and retail experience who have strong customer service, administration and organisational skills.

Minimum Requirements

Essential Qualifications and Experience

Applicants must have:

  • Grade 12 / Matric certificate.
  • Retail experience.
  • Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • SAP knowledge or experience will be beneficial.
  • Knowledge of retail administration and store operations.

Conditions of Employment

Candidates must:

  • Be South African citizens.
  • Successfully complete the required MIE screening.
  • Have a clear criminal and credit record.
  • Have a valid driver’s licence and/or reliable transport.

Retail Store Assistant Responsibilities

The successful candidate will assist with various store administration and customer service functions, including:

  • Managing and reporting customer compliments and complaints to management.
  • Building professional relationships with customers.
  • Handling and resolving customer stock queries.
  • Providing customers with feedback when required.
  • Responding to customer enquiries and referring customers to the appropriate departments.
  • Working towards the required customer turnover-per-hour benchmark.
  • Managing shorts and overs at the point of sale, including cash floats.
  • Processing refunds and return transactions.
  • Ensuring back shopping and returned goods are handled correctly.
  • Verifying deliveries and invoices for accuracy.
  • Assisting the Receiving Manager with Distribution Centre claims.
  • Managing and controlling high-risk stock.
  • Preparing daily run reconciliations.
  • Preparing, ordering and receiving branch change requirements.
  • Ensuring cashiers have sufficient change to maintain good customer service.
  • Maintaining effective communication with relevant internal and external parties.
  • Maintaining accurate document control for floats, petty cash and cash on hand.
  • Following all applicable company policies and procedures.
