The Council for Geoscience (CGS) is inviting applications for 15 permanent Drivers positions at its Head Office in Pretoria, Gauteng. This opportunity is suitable for candidates with Grade 10, a valid Code 10/C1 driver’s licence with PDP, and at least six months of related driving experience.

The successful candidates will provide safe and efficient transport services to CGS employees, scientific teams, stakeholders, goods and documents while supporting geoscience field programmes.

Drivers Job Requirements

Applicants for the Council for Geoscience Drivers jobs must meet the following minimum requirements:

  • Grade 10 qualification.
  • Valid Code 10/C1 driver’s licence with PDP.
  • At least 6 months of relevant driving experience.
  • Basic knowledge of vehicle maintenance.
  • Ability to read and interpret maps and directions.
  • Ability to operate a GPS.
  • Understanding of the responsibilities associated with transporting passengers.
  • Knowledge of basic administrative and clerical procedures.

Advantageous Qualifications

The following qualifications or certificates will be an added advantage:

  • EC licence or Code 14 driver’s licence with PDP.
  • TLB operating certificate.
  • Forklift certificate.

Drivers Responsibilities

Successful candidates will be responsible for providing effective and efficient driving services to the Council for Geoscience.

Key duties include:

  • Transport scientific staff to fieldwork locations.
  • Transport CGS employees, stakeholders and goods using light and medium motor vehicles.
  • Assist scientific staff with the collection and curation of geoscience data.
  • Ensure staff are collected and delivered on time.
  • Follow daily transportation schedules.
  • Manage unexpected changes and obstacles affecting transportation schedules.
  • Communicate schedule changes to relevant stakeholders.
  • Follow all traffic laws, safety requirements and workplace procedures.
  • Complete vehicle logbooks and other required records.
  • Conduct pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections.
  • Ensure allocated vehicles remain roadworthy, clean and properly maintained.
  • Assist with taking vehicles to maintenance agents and third parties.
  • Liaise with employees regarding transportation requirements.
  • Collect, deliver and distribute company mail, documents and parcels.
  • Maintain accurate records of mail and document deliveries.
  • Safeguard vehicles, documents, parcels and other allocated items.
  • Assist with the recovery of broken-down vehicles when required.
  • Support CGS operational requirements outside normal working hours when requested.
  • Perform other duties assigned by management.
