About the Job
Tiger Brands is looking for a skilled and experienced Boilermaker to join its Engineering team in Potchefstroom.
The successful candidate will be responsible for fabrication, installation, inspection, repair and maintenance of plant equipment, including bins, tanks, chutes, hoppers, pipelines and structural steelwork.
This role is suited to a qualified Boilermaker with strong fabrication and maintenance experience, preferably gained in a manufacturing or FMCG environment.
Boilermaker Responsibilities
Key duties include:
- Fabricate, assemble, install and repair bins, tanks, chutes, hoppers, pipelines and structural steel.
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, sketches and specifications.
- Perform welding, cutting, bending and shaping of metal components.
- Conduct planned, preventative and breakdown maintenance.
- Inspect equipment and identify faults, wear and structural defects.
- Ensure repairs and installations meet safety and quality standards.
- Complete maintenance records and close job cards accurately.
- Work with maintenance coordinators, planners and engineering teams to reduce downtime.
- Maintain tools, equipment and workshop assets.
- Follow all health, safety and environmental requirements.
- Participate in shutdowns, maintenance activities and engineering projects.
- Support continuous improvement projects involving fabrication and machine guarding.
- Help reduce product leakage and improve sealing integrity on pneumatic pipeline systems.
Boilermaker Requirements
To qualify for this position, you should have:
- A Trade Test Certificate as a qualified Boilermaker (Red Seal or equivalent).
- At least 3–5 years of post-trade experience.
- Experience in a manufacturing or FMCG environment.
- Strong technical and mechanical aptitude.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings.
- Experience with MIG, TIG and arc welding.
- Practical fabrication experience.
- Knowledge of pressure systems, boilers and structural steelwork.
- Basic knowledge of preventative maintenance systems.
