Purpose of the Role (Artisan Assistant)
The Artisan Assistant will support qualified artisans by assisting with repairs, maintenance, inspections, and servicing of plant machinery and equipment. The successful candidate will also help maintain engineering work areas while ensuring compliance with health and safety standards.
Key Responsibilities
As an Artisan Assistant, you will:
- Assist artisans with daily maintenance and repair activities.
- Inspect machinery and equipment.
- Perform minor assembly of parts under artisan supervision.
- Clean machinery, equipment, and engineering work areas.
- Carry out basic building maintenance tasks.
- Work safely from ladders and scaffolding when required.
- Report safety hazards immediately.
- Assist with additional maintenance duties as requested.
- Create and close maintenance job cards on the maintenance management system (DMS).
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives (MECP).
- Follow all company health and safety procedures.
Minimum Requirements
Applicants should have:
- Grade 12 (Matric)
- Electrical or Mechanical background (advantageous)
- Technical aptitude
- Willingness to work shifts and overtime
- Good teamwork and communication skills
- Problem-solving and fault-finding abilities
- Planning and prioritization skills
- Willingness to learn and receive training
