About the Maintenance Technician Job

Coca-Cola Beverages South Africa (CCBSA) is looking for a skilled Maintenance Technician to join its Production department in Midrand, Gauteng.

The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining production equipment, responding to breakdowns, carrying out preventive and corrective maintenance, and supporting equipment reliability in a manufacturing environment.

Key Responsibilities

Preventive and Corrective Maintenance

  • Perform scheduled maintenance according to maintenance plans and OEM recommendations.
  • Inspect, lubricate, clean and adjust equipment to prevent breakdowns.
  • Complete corrective maintenance efficiently to minimise production downtime.
  • Maintain mechanical, electrical and electromechanical equipment.

Breakdown Response and Fault Finding

  • Respond promptly to equipment breakdowns and faults.
  • Diagnose mechanical and electrical problems.
  • Identify root causes and carry out effective repairs.
  • Recommend improvements to prevent recurring breakdowns.

Maintenance Quality and Safety

  • Complete maintenance work according to safety, quality, food safety and environmental standards.
  • Follow permit-to-work and lockout/tagout procedures.
  • Complete job cards accurately using the Computerised Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
  • Record faults, maintenance time and materials used.

Equipment Reliability

  • Conduct equipment inspections and condition monitoring.
  • Identify and report abnormal equipment conditions.
  • Support asset-care initiatives such as 5S, Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and Reliability-Centred Maintenance (RCM).
  • Help reduce recurring equipment problems and improve plant efficiency.

Teamwork and Communication

  • Work closely with Production, Engineering and Stores teams.
  • Communicate maintenance issues and activities effectively.
  • Support training and knowledge sharing within the maintenance team.
  • Assist the Maintenance Controller with planning, parts identification and improvement initiatives.

Minimum Requirements

Applicants should have:

  • An N6 Certificate with a Millwright Trade Test.
  • Alternatively, N6 in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering with a Millwright Trade Certificate.
  • 3–5 years of hands-on maintenance experience in a manufacturing or FMCG environment.
  • Experience working with both electrical and mechanical systems is advantageous.
  • Experience in bottling or packaging environments is beneficial.
  • Knowledge of food safety, hygiene and SHEQ standards.
  • Experience using a CMMS is advantageous.

Technical Skills

The ideal candidate should have:

  • Strong mechanical and/or electrical fault-finding skills.
  • Knowledge of gearboxes, pumps, conveyors, motors and sensors.
  • Basic knowledge of PLC interfaces and industrial automation.
  • Ability to use maintenance tools and diagnostic equipment.
  • Ability to read technical drawings and wiring schematics.
  • Knowledge of OEM manuals and technical documentation.
  • Root Cause Analysis and continuous improvement skills.
  • SAP PM experience for job execution and feedback.
  • Knowledge of SHEQ, GMP and safe maintenance practices.
  • Good communication, teamwork and time-management skills.
