Job Purpose (Casual Frontshop Assistant)
The Casual Frontshop Assistant will support daily retail operations by ensuring shelves are fully stocked, assisting customers, processing transactions, maintaining merchandising standards, and delivering exceptional customer service.
Key Responsibilities
Your duties will include:
Merchandising and Stock Control
- Ensure shelves are fully stocked and neatly presented.
- Monitor product expiry dates and remove expired stock.
- Replenish merchandise to maximise sales.
- Follow up on out-of-stock customer queries.
- Pack and store stock correctly.
- Ensure product labels and pricing are accurate.
- Keep the storeroom clean and organised.
- Rotate stock according to company procedures.
- Report damaged, expired, or low stock to management.
- Assist with stocktaking and stock counts.
- Load and off-load stock when required.
- Flatten and dispose of packaging boxes correctly.
Customer Service
- Provide friendly, professional assistance to customers.
- Help customers locate products.
- Handle customer compliments and complaints professionally.
- Stay informed about new products.
- Maintain excellent customer service standards.
Point of Sale Duties
- Process cash, card, voucher, and coupon payments.
- Exchange and process authorised customer returns.
- Process loyalty card transactions.
- Maintain accurate cash handling procedures.
- Ensure all line voids and price changes are properly authorised.
- Secure daily cash takings according to company procedures.
General Duties
- Assist with back shopping.
- Support the training of new team members.
- Follow Dis-Chem housekeeping standards.
- Adhere to company policies and standard operating procedures.
- Comply with Health and Safety regulations.
- Maintain the required company uniform and professional appearance.
Minimum Requirements
Essential
- Grade 12 (Matric or Senior Certificate)
- 0–6 months’ retail experience
Advantageous
- At least 1 year of retail experience
- Retail Business Management qualification or certification
