Requirements

To qualify for Road Worker, applicants must have,

  • NQF Level 4 qualification recognised by SAQA
  • Knowledge of:
    • Road maintenance procedures
    • Road construction methods
    • Operating basic road maintenance machinery
    • Health and Safety legislation
    • Relevant public service Acts & regulations
  • Skills:
    • Teamwork
    • Communication
    • Decision-making
    • Planning & organising
    • Ability to work in road maintenance environments

Duties

  • Perform routine road maintenance and construction tasks
  • Build culverts, side drains and road earthworks
  • Erect steel guardrails and gabions
  • Clean and maintain roads, sidewalks and rest areas
  • Conduct surfacing, patch potholes and repair damaged sections
  • Install road fencing, lay pipes and assist with layer works
  • Mark roads, install studs and traffic signage
  • Barricade work areas and ensure safe working zones
  • Conduct bush clearing, grass cutting and crush road materials
