Transnet Driver: Port Mobile Equipment Duties

The appointed candidate will be responsible for:

• Conducting daily inspections of allocated machinery before starting work.
• Completing task sheets and reporting equipment defects.
• Checking and replenishing fuel and fluid levels.
• Operating allocated equipment according to standard operating procedures.
• Monitoring equipment performance during operations.
• Operating articulated vehicles, tractor/trailers, forklifts, payloaders and tip trucks.
• Reporting accidents and incidents.
• Selecting and using the correct equipment and attachments for different cargo.
• Changing attachments when required.
• Completing end-of-shift duties.

Qualifications and Experience

To qualify for the Transnet Driver Port Mobile Equipment position, applicants should have:

• Matric or NQF Level 4.
• Code 14 (EC) Driver’s Licence.
• Certificate of competence for each machine operated.
• At least 2 years of relevant driving experience in Port Operations, Maritime Services or Warehouse Tally.

Alternatively, candidates with basic numeracy and literacy may qualify with a minimum of 3 years’ relevant experience.

Required Competencies

Applicants should demonstrate:

• Knowledge of operational areas and procedures.
• Understanding of terminal mobile machinery.
• Competence in operating relevant terminal machines.
• Ability to complete machine checklists and report defects or incidents.
