Minimum Requirements

Essential Requirements

Applicants must have:

  • Grade 12 / Matric or Senior Certificate.
  • Grade C PSIRA accreditation.
  • At least 3 years of general security exposure in the retail industry, such as shopping malls or warehouses.
  • Knowledge of PSIRA requirements.
  • Good English reading, writing and speaking skills.
  • Fire emergency and relevant Health and Safety training or exposure.
  • Must be South African.
  • Must be PSIRA registered.
  • Must pass MIE screening, including criminal and credit checks.

Advantageous

  • At least 1 year of previous experience in a similar security guard position.
  • Ability to speak a third language.
  • Valid driver’s licence and reliable transport.
  • PDP where required for driving duties.

Security Guard Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Monitoring the premises and identifying suspicious or criminal activity.
  • Conducting regular patrols to maintain security visibility.
  • Controlling access for staff, customers, suppliers and visitors.
  • Conducting personnel and vehicle searches according to company procedures.
  • Checking and maintaining security registers and occurrence books.
  • Investigating and reporting unlawful entry, damage and security incidents.
  • Protecting company property, employees, customers and assets.
  • Monitoring alarm systems and CCTV cameras where applicable.
  • Reporting suspicious behaviour to management.
  • Contacting police, emergency services or other authorities when required.
  • Preparing detailed written reports following incidents.
  • Supporting emergency and evacuation procedures.
  • Maintaining order at assembly points during emergencies.
  • Ensuring doors, windows and water taps are secured where applicable.
  • Remaining vigilant during opening and closing procedures.
  • Providing professional and courteous customer service.
