Job Purpose

The Confirmations Clerk is responsible for minimising financial risk by obtaining medical aid authorisations and re-authorisations, maintaining accurate patient information, supporting clinical coding processes, and ensuring compliance with healthcare funding requirements.

Key Responsibilities

Medical Aid Authorisations

  • Obtain authorisations and re-authorisations for patient admissions.
  • Ensure all required approvals are received before treatment where applicable.
  • Monitor authorisation status to minimise financial risk.

Patient Administration

  • Capture and maintain accurate patient information.
  • Communicate with patients, healthcare funders, and internal departments.
  • Ensure patient records are complete and up to date.

Financial Risk Management

  • Identify cases that may present financial risks.
  • Escalate high-risk cases for further review.
  • Ensure compliance with confirmation procedures and funder requirements.

Clinical Coding Support

  • Apply Level 2 clinical coding guidelines.
  • Ensure coding standards are followed accurately.
  • Support billing processes through accurate coding and documentation.

Compliance

  • Comply with funder contracts and medical aid requirements.
  • Follow patient administration policies and procedures.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality.
