Job Purpose

The Shop Assistant Cashier will be responsible for providing exceptional customer service, operating the point of sale (POS) system, handling cash transactions, promoting loyalty programmes, and maintaining merchandising standards within the store.

Key Responsibilities

Customer Service

  • Deliver outstanding customer service at all times
  • Assist customers with enquiries and product information
  • Promote a positive shopping experience
  • Act as a brand ambassador for Clicks

Cashier Duties

  • Process customer purchases accurately and efficiently
  • Scan merchandise and collect payments
  • Process ClubCard rewards and benefits
  • Ensure safe handling of cash and transactions
  • Maintain accuracy at the point of sale

Sales and Promotions

  • Promote Clicks ClubCard membership
  • Enrol new ClubCard members
  • Inform customers about current promotions and special offers
  • Support sales growth through excellent customer engagement

Merchandising and Housekeeping

  • Replenish stock and maintain merchandise displays
  • Ensure shelves are neat and well-presented
  • Follow visual merchandising standards
  • Perform housekeeping duties within the store

Product Knowledge

  • Stay updated on products, promotions, and events
  • Provide accurate information to customers
  • Support the company’s customer-first retail strategy

Minimum Requirements

Essential Requirements

  • Grade 12 / Matric certificate
  • Basic computer literacy
  • Good communication skills
  • Strong customer service orientation
  • Numeracy and cash-handling ability

Advantageous Requirements

  • Previous experience in a customer-facing retail environment
  • Experience in FMCG or retail operations
  • Mathematics with 50% or higher in Grade 12
  • English with 50% or higher in Grade 12
