PYEI-BEEI Phase V Is Hiring – Apply Now for School Assistant Jobs (2025 Intake)

The Presidential Youth Employment Initiative (PYEI) in the Basic Education Sector is now accepting applications for Phase V. If you are an unemployed youth aged between 18 and 34 years, this is your chance to be placed in a local school and gain valuable work experience while earning a stipend.

This national initiative, also known as BEEI (Basic Education Employment Initiative), has created thousands of job opportunities across South Africa, and the 2025 rollout is even bigger.

Available Roles

🔹 Education Assistants (EA)

These roles are aimed at assisting teachers in the classroom and improving the learning experience for students.
Positions available:

  • Curriculum Assistants
  • Reading Champions
  • e-Cadres – ICT integration in the classroom
  • Library Assistants
  • Care and Support Assistants – psychosocial and emotional support
  • Workshop Assistants

Candidates with tertiary education qualifications, especially in Education, will be given preference.

🔹 General School Assistants (GSA)

These positions focus on school operations and extracurricular activities. Roles include:

  • Handymen/Women – maintenance of school infrastructure
  • Sports and Enrichment Assistants – support in arts, culture, and sports

Stipend and Key Dates

  • Stipend: R4,000.00/month (less 1% UIF deduction), plus R30 data bundle monthly
  • Applications Open: 22 April 2025
  • Closing Date: 09 May 2025 at 23:59
  • Interview Period: 19 May – 31 May 2025
  • Start Date: 02 June 2025

Who Can Apply?

To qualify, you must:

  • Be a South African citizen aged between 18 and 34 years
  • Be unemployed and not studying (NEET: Not in Education, Employment, or Training)
  • Have a valid South African ID or Smart ID
  • Live within 5 km of an urban school or 30 km of a rural/farm school
  • Have a South African bank account
  • Be open to working in education or general assistance roles

You can apply even if you participated in Phase I, II, III, or IV – as long as you meet the requirements.
