About the SAA Technical Apprenticeship / Learnership Programme 2026
The SAA Technical Apprenticeship / Learnership Programme 2026 provides structured training in approved aviation technical trades. Successful applicants will be placed in one of SAAT’s specialist trade areas, where they will receive:

- Supervised practical workplace training

Trades Offered (Choose Two in Order of Preference)
Applicants may select two trades when applying.
Aircraft Welding
Training includes:
- Welding and repair of aircraft and engine components
- Plasma spraying techniques
- Heat treatment processes
- Manufacturing of aircraft parts and tooling
Aircraft Spray Painting
Training includes:
- Corrosion prevention techniques
- Repairing and restoring paint coatings
- Application of protective coatings
- Painting aircraft interiors and exteriors
Aircraft Trimming
Training includes:
- Manufacturing and repairing aircraft interiors
- Inspection and maintenance of cabin components
- Maintenance of aircraft survival equipment
Aircraft Composite Structures
Training includes:
- Manufacturing aircraft composite components
- Repair and inspection of composite structures
- Maintenance of advanced aircraft materials
Minimum Qualification Requirements
Applicants must meet one of the following educational requirements:
Option 1: Grade 12 (Matric)
- Pure Mathematics: 50% or Level 4
- Physical Science: 50% or Level 4
- English: Pass required
Option 2: N3 Certificate
- Mathematics: 50% pass
- Engineering Science: 50% pass
Knowledge and Skills Requirements
Applicants should demonstrate the following:
- Ability to read, write and communicate in English (essential)
- Basic understanding of technical or mechanical concepts (advantageous)
- Ability to follow instructions accurately
- Good verbal and written communication skills
