About the Opportunity ( Foreman Ground Services)

The Western Cape Department of Health and Wellness is seeking a dedicated Foreman Ground Services to oversee grounds maintenance at Paarl Hospital. This role focuses on managing grounds staff, maintaining hospital outdoor areas and ensuring a clean, safe and functional environment for patients, staff and visitors.

Minimum Requirements

  • General Education and Training Certificate (GETC) / Grade 9 (Std 7)
  • Appropriate experience in grounds or garden maintenance
  • Valid Code B/EB driver’s licence
  • Physically fit and able to perform strenuous duties, including heavy lifting and walking for long periods
  • Ability to work in extreme outdoor weather conditions

Knowledge, Skills and Competencies

  • Knowledge of petrol and diesel grounds equipment and a variety of gardening tools
  • Skilled in irrigation systems and routine maintenance of grounds equipment
  • Understanding of Health and Safety regulations relevant to outdoor grounds work
  • Good planning, communication, leadership and organisational skills
  • Ability to manage staff, tasks and time effectively
  • A commitment to service excellence
  • Computer literacy: MS Word, Excel and Outlook

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Plan, coordinate and supervise all grounds maintenance activities
  • Lead grounds staff, including performance management, discipline and conflict resolution
  • Train staff on safe and correct use of tools and equipment
  • Oversee outdoor safety, maintenance, gardening, irrigation and landscaping duties
  • Support the Supervisor and provide operational assistance when required
  • Maintain high service standards and ensure efficient work output
