The Department of Water and Sanitation (DWS) invites applications from unemployed South African citizens for Water Control Aid (X22 posts) in the Infrastructure Management – Northern Operations branch. Minimum Requirements

  • NQF Level 2 or equivalent (higher qualification advantageous)
  • Good verbal, reading, and writing skills
  • Basic knowledge in water distribution and control for government water works
  • Basic understanding of Occupational Health & Safety
  • Knowledge of flood control and record keeping

Duties & Responsibilities

Water Control Aid will be responsible for:

  • Opening and closing sluices according to scheme regulations
  • Handling water distribution sheets accurately
  • Performing minor maintenance on structures, fencing, and sluices
  • Clearing blocked pipes and canals, and removing algae and water grass
  • Conducting daily inspections and reporting cracks, holes, or irregularities
  • Maintaining clean and secure equipment stores
  • Painting sluices and marking sluice numbers clearly
  • Keeping canal grids, gauge plates, and surrounding structures clean
  • Ensuring inlet holes to measuring boxes are always open
  • Repairing minor washouts and equipment as required
