Correctional services learnership application 2022/2023 

Department of correctional services learnership application for 2022 to 2023 targets youth aged 21-35 with a minimum of matric or grade 12 certificate qualification. This programme will help youth develop practical and theoretical skills to work within the department of correctional services (DCS).  The successful candidate will get the stipend of R5000.00 Per Month for the duration of learnership programme. The programme contract is 12 months.

Correctional services learnership application requirements

  • South Africans citizens 
  • Grade 12, Standard 10 or national certificate in vocational studies (NQF level 4)

Consider applying for Spar Jobs and Cleaning jobs that need grade 10 or abet.

Take note the applicant must be between the age of 21-35 and have strong character as a law-abiding citizen and with no criminal records. The applicants must be ready to subject themselves to selection processes conducted by DCS. The applicant must be ready to disclose information and verify the qualifications and citizenship. Having an additional qualification from the institution of higher learning such as a trade or occupational-based certificate, diploma, or degree related to roles of DSC will be an advantage.

Learnership Programme duration

The learnership is for a duration of 12 months and it consists of theory and workplace training. 

Theoretical content will make up around 30% of the program. This academic training will be provided at a DCS institution that has been accredited, as determined by the Department. In-depth education in self-defense, weaponry and physical training are all part of the theoretical training.

Since this training is required, you must commit to a full-time schedule at the Training College. During the training time, successful candidates are provided with free lodging, food, a uniform (field wear and a tracksuit), and all instructional materials.

Workplace Training

70% of the remaining training will consist of actual workplace (on-the-job) training in the Correctional and Social Reintegration Centres/Units.This section of the course will involve responsibilities related to the rehabilitation and security of criminals. During this phase of training, participants continue to receive a monthly stipend but are responsible for their own housing, food, and transportation. 

During a learnership, the Department of Correctional Services does not provide a housing allowance, housing subsidy, retirement fund, medical assistance, danger allowance, or overtime.Once the learner has successfully completed both the theoretical (instructional) and practical (workplace) stages, submitted a final Portfolio of Evidence (POE), and passed external verification by SASSETA, a NQF 4 FET Certificate in Correctional Services will be granted.

The Application for Admission to a Learnership in DCS may be obtained from any Correctional Services Office or downloaded from the website of the Department of Correctional Services. Under the Forms Tab, www.dcs.gov.za provides the e-DCS website. Once you have accessed the website, search for the “Forms” at the top or bottom and press it. Then, press on the link labeled Internship/Learning Application Forms. When you press on the link for the Learnership Application Form, the application will instantly download to your computer/phone.
