Prospective police trainees can download the SAPS 2024/2025 SAPS application form here. You can also get it from the SAPS careers website, where you need to click the “Police Trainees” link to view it. Alternatively, visit any police station to get it for free. SAPS said it no longer uses the Z83 form.
To apply, fill out the application form in black ink and attach the following documents (uncertified): Identity document. Driver’s license (if applicable). Higher Certificate/National Higher Certificate/National (Vocational) Certificate. Post-secondary degree with academic records (degree/diploma). Proof of residence. Testimonial letter (from school/church/traditional leaders). Service certificates from previous employers (if applicable).
Requirements
According to the requirements contained in the SAPS recruitment advertisement, each applicant must: Have permanent residence in the Republic of South Africa and provide documentary proof. Have a Grade 12 school certificate or equivalent qualification and provide documentary proof.
A valid driver’s license for at least one light motor vehicle will be an asset. Be proficient in at least English and one other official language. Be at least 18 years old and under 35. Must have no criminal record and allow fingerprinting and background checks to be carried out. Have no visible tattoo marks when wearing any SAPS uniform. Be prepared to take an oath. Undergo a physical medical examination and be deemed physically and mentally fit for an appointment.
Undergo and pass a psychological assessment and be deemed to meet the profile of a police officer.
Be prepared to complete training. Be prepared to serve anywhere in the Republic of South Africa.
The recruitment process will include physical, psychometric, and integrity testing, medical assessment, interview, and verification. Applicants must hand-deliver the form to the nearest police station during working hours and before the application deadline, which is 31 September 2024. Successful applicants will be trained for 21 months in three phases, as follows: Induction Phase – one month at a designated police station. The stipend is R4 500.
Basic Training Phase – eight months at a designated SAPS academy. The stipend is R4 500 per month. Probationary Phase – appointment as a SAPS member undertaking the Workplace Exposure Programme (12 months). The annual salary is R216 033.
“During the basic training phase of the program, the Service will provide the trainee with free training material, meals, and accommodation,” the SAPS said. “Trainees will also receive medical aid benefits for the duration of the 21-month Basic Training Apprenticeship Programme. Upon successful completion of the Basic Training Apprenticeship Programme, the trainees will be considered for permanent appointment as members of the SAPS at the rank of Police Constable.”
The successful candidates will commence their training in April 2024. “We are undertaking this process to ensure that there are more soldiers on the ground to maximize our crime-fighting efforts,” said Deputy Minister Mathale. “We are inviting disciplined, honest, and passionate candidates who are ready to serve and protect their communities. With more soldiers on the ground, we aim to enhance our response to emerging crime trends,” added National Police Commissioner General Fannie Masemola.
