About the In-Service Trainee – Engineering Programme
Coca-Cola Beverages South Africa (CCBSA) invites suitably qualified Electrical and Mechanical Engineering students to apply for the In-Service Trainee – Engineering programme. This 12-month in-service training opportunity is designed for students who have completed their theoretical studies and require practical workplace exposure to complete a National Diploma qualification.
This hands-on engineering internship is based at CCBSA’s Nigel and Heidelberg manufacturing sites and offers valuable exposure to industrial maintenance, equipment reliability, and engineering best practices within a world-class manufacturing environment.
Purpose of the Role (In-Service Trainee)
The In-Service Trainee – Engineering will support the engineering and maintenance teams by assisting with inspections, preventative maintenance, and equipment repairs. The role focuses on improving equipment availability, reducing downtime, minimizing losses, and supporting departmental efficiency while adhering to safety and quality standards.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
As an Engineering In-Service Trainee, you will:
- Conduct routine inspections of plant equipment and building systems
- Assist with preventative and corrective maintenance tasks
- Support the repair of faulty or malfunctioning equipment under supervision
- Apply electrical and mechanical principles to diagnose equipment issues
- Record and document maintenance activities and equipment history
- Analyse maintenance data to identify trends and improvement opportunities
- Assist in improving equipment reliability and reducing downtime
- Participate in safety inspections and ensure compliance with regulations
- Work closely with senior engineers and maintenance teams
- Attend training sessions to strengthen technical and practical skills
- Contribute ideas for continuous improvement initiatives
- Support special maintenance projects and plant upgrades
Required Knowledge, Skills and Attributes
Knowledge
- Basic understanding of electrical and/or mechanical engineering principles
- Knowledge of physics and mathematics relevant to engineering applications
- Awareness of engineering safety standards and procedures
Skills
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, pressurised manufacturing environment
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
- Ability to apply theoretical knowledge to practical situations

Qualifications and Experience
