Maintenance Assistant – Job Purpose
The Maintenance Assistant supports the Maintenance team by providing effective maintenance assistance to ensure equipment reliability, operational stability, and plant sustainability. The role requires strict adherence to safety standards, procedures, and maintenance codes while contributing to continuous improvement initiatives within the Secunda Operations environment.
Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities
Safety, Health & Compliance
- Apply and maintain safety standards in all work environments
- Adhere to Sasol safety procedures, codes, and requirements
- Participate in toolbox talks, PDAs, and RCAs to improve plant safety
- Maintain good housekeeping and follow waste disposal procedures
Maintenance & Reliability Support
- Assist with planned and corrective maintenance activities
- Perform plant inspections and execute repairs as required
- Identify equipment faults using applicable methods to ensure availability
- Capture accurate maintenance history to support renewals and upgrades
- Ensure critical spares are identified and replaced when required
Planning, Execution & Feedback
- Carry out work according to approved maintenance planning
- Participate in daily morning meetings to discuss work assignments
- Provide regular feedback to supervisors on work progress
- Communicate progress updates to internal customers
Continuous Improvement & Sustainability
- Participate in Root Cause Analyses (RCA) and provide technical feedback
- Conduct My IMS inspections to improve plant sustainability
- Identify continuous improvement opportunities in the work area
- Support business goals by meeting deadlines and quality standards
Training & Development
- Attend training courses and seminars as per the training matrix
- Identify personal training and development needs
- Incorporate development goals into a Personal Development Plan (PDP) with approval from the Group Leader
Minimum Qualifications
- Grade 12 / N3 qualification
- Subjects must include:
- Mathematics
- Physical Science
- English
Required Experience
- 1–2+ years’ relevant maintenance or technical experience in an industrial or plant environment
