Learners will assist with safety initiatives, risk management, and compliance with relevant health and safety legislation.
Minimum Requirements
Applicants must meet the following requirements to qualify:
- Currently studying towards a Health & Safety-related qualification
- Willing to learn and be trained in a practical mining environment
- Possess administrative and Microsoft Office skills
- Able to work in a fast-paced environment and take initiative
- Medically fit in accordance with the Mine Health and Safety Act and company standards
Key Duties and Responsibilities
As a Health & Safety Learner, you will:
- Assist with safety inductions and toolbox talks
- Ensure compliance with the Mine Health and Safety Act and other regulations
- Support adherence to the National Environmental Management (NEM) Act
- Learn how to identify workplace hazards and risks
- Participate in drafting and reviewing Codes of Practice (COPs)
- Submit safety documents to be uploaded on the SHEQ system
- Assist with drafting legal appointments
- Support accident and incident investigations
- Attend Health and Safety committee meetings
- Learn to conduct internal and external audits
- Assist employees with occupational health and safety issues
- Support the Safety Officer in visual inspections
- Report near misses, incidents, and accidents
