About the Opportunity (Tradesman Aid )

The KwaZulu-Natal Department of Transport is inviting applications for Tradesman Aid (X4 Posts) across the Ladysmith and Empangeni regions. These positions provide hands-on experience in maintaining departmental vehicles, equipment, and facilities, supporting smooth operational activities.

Minimum Requirements

  • Grade 10 / Junior Certificate
  • Minimum 6 months trade-related experience
  • Knowledge of electrical and hand tools
  • Good interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Assist in the maintenance of vehicles, equipment, and facilities
  • Arrange tools and prepare parts for maintenance activities
  • Drain used oils, refill with new oils, and change filters
  • Check fluid levels and grease all greasing points on vehicles and equipment
  • Repair or replace worn or damaged wheels and components
  • Dispose of used oils, filters, rags, and other waste in designated areas
  • Service, clean, and ensure the safe keeping of tools and equipment under supervision
  • Keep the workshop, vehicles, and tools clean and tidy at all times
  • Report missing, defective, or damaged tools and equipment
  • Assist with the removal, stripping, and assembly of vehicle and equipment components
  • Secure loose bolts, nuts, screws, clamps, plugs, and terminals
  • Report hazards or potential risks to the supervisor promptly
