About the Shoprite YES Learnership 2025

The Shoprite YES Learnership Programme is part of the Youth Employment Service (YES) initiative, a collaborative effort between businesses, the government, and labour sectors aimed at reducing youth unemployment in South Africa.

Through this initiative, Shoprite offers unemployed young people the chance to gain 12 months of practical, on-the-job training in the retail industry. This training equips learners with key workplace skills, enabling them to pursue a career in retail or even start their own retail businesses.

By joining this programme, learners get a unique opportunity to be mentored by experienced professionals while gaining exposure to multiple retail operations such as:

  • Store operations and customer service
  • Inventory management and merchandising
  • Point-of-sale systems and cash handling
  • Retail management and leadership basics
  • Health and safety in retail environments

On successful completion of the learnership, participants receive certification and are equipped with the knowledge to secure employment in retail or build entrepreneurial ventures in the retail sector.s.

Eligibility Criteria – Who Can Apply?

To qualify for the Shoprite YES Learnership 2025, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Be a South African citizen aged 18–34 years
  • Possess at least a Grade 10 pass or equivalent (Matric / Grade 12 is highly advantageous)
  • OR hold a Retail Readiness Programme (RRP) qualification
  • Be unemployed at the time of application
  • Be willing to commit to the 12-month full-time programme
  • Have good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Be willing to work in a fast-paced retail environment
