Key Requirements

  • ABET / Grade 11 Certificate or equivalent.
  • Registration as a Security Officers with the Private Security Industry Regulatory Authority (PSIRA) – minimum Grade C certificate.
  • 0–2 years’ experience in security operations.
  • Knowledge of security legislation, policies, procedures, public service regulations, security registers, Batho Pele Principles, and MISS.
  • Strong customer service, communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Willingness to work irregular hours, including day/night shifts, weekends, and public holidays.
  • Personal attributes: disciplined, meticulous, reliable, ethical, flexible, confident, and proactive.

Main Duties

  • Perform access control functions, confirming appointments and directing visitors to the correct service points.
  • Maintain and update admission control registers, issue control documents/cards as required.
  • Operate x-ray machines and walk-through metal detectors to prevent unauthorised or dangerous items from entering premises.
  • Monitor and respond to suspicious behaviour or security breaches.
  • Ensure proper lock-up of offices and controlled areas.
  • Record and report all incidents in the occurrence book/register.
  • Safeguard equipment, documents, and stores, preventing unauthorised removal or entry.
  • Operate and monitor control room security equipment.
