Job Purpose (SAPS Security Officer)

To provide effective access control, guarding and protection services at SAPS and DPCI premises in order to safeguard employees, visitors, assets and information in line with legislative and departmental security requirements.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

Successful candidates will be responsible for:

  • Executing access control in terms of the Control of Access to Public Premises and Vehicles Act (Act 53 of 1985)
  • Conducting positive identification of employees, visitors and contractors
  • Registering all visitors, employees and maintenance personnel
  • Issuing and collecting visitor admission control cards
  • Performing electronic and physical searches where required
  • Authorising entry only after confirmation with host officials
  • Ensuring visitors are properly escorted at all times
  • Inspecting suppliers, goods, articles and objects entering premises
  • Controlling admission of vehicles and equipment
  • Guarding vehicles, equipment and buildings
  • Patrolling buildings and fenced-off areas
  • Monitoring and reporting defects in security equipment and facilities
  • Supervising cleaners and maintenance staff from a security perspective only
  • Rendering assistance to senior security personnel
  • Reporting security risks, incidents and deficiencies promptly

Requirements

Applicants for SAPS Security Officer, must meet the following minimum requirements:

  • Grade 10 (Standard 8) or Basic Education and Training (NQF Level 3)
  • Proficiency in at least two official languages, one of which must be English
  • South African citizen
  • No criminal record or pending cases
  • Successfully registered with PSIRA
  • Possession of Grade C Security Certificate or higher
  • Not declared unfit to possess a firearm
  • Willingness to undergo and maintain firearm competency training
  • Willingness to work shifts and extended hours
  • Applicants will undergo security vetting, fingerprint verification and screening

Advantageous:

  • Degree or Diploma in Security Services
  • Relevant security-related courses
  • Valid driverโ€™s licence (light motor vehicle)
