Minimum Requirements
To qualify for SAPS Security Officer posts, applicants must have:
- Competency in post-specific security duties
- Grade 10 / ABET Level 3 (NQF 3)
- PSIRA registration (minimum Grade C)
- South African citizenship
- Fluent in two official languages (one must be English)
- No criminal record or pending cases
- Willingness to undergo:
- Security screening
- Fingerprint verification
- Firearm competency training
- Not declared unfit to possess a firearm
- Willingness to work shifts and extended hours
Added advantages:
- Security-related Diploma/Degree
- Valid driver’s licence (light motor vehicle)
- Relevant security training courses
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Security Officers will perform uniformed protective and access control duties, including:
- Managing Access Control in line with Act 53 of 1985
- Identifying and registering all employees, visitors and contractors
- Conducting electronic searches at access points
- Confirming visitor appointments and arranging escorts
- Issuing and retrieving access cards
- Maintaining visitor registers
- Inspecting and clearing suppliers, goods and equipment
- Patrolling buildings, grounds and fenced areas
- Guarding vehicles and SAPS equipment
- Reporting security risks and equipment deficiencies
- Checking, monitoring and maintaining security equipment
