Key Responsibilities

Upon completing the Basic Police Development Learning Programme (BPDLP), trainees will:

Programme Structure

Phase 1: Basic Training (10 months)

Phase 2: Probation (12 months)

  • Practical training at a police station.

Minimum Requirements

Eligibility Criteria

  • South African citizen (by birth or naturalization).
  • Grade 12 (Matric) certificate or equivalent.
  • No criminal record.
  • Age: 18–35 years old at the time of application.
  • Proficiency in English and at least one other official South African language.
  • Physically and medically fit (assessed via fitness and medical evaluations).
  • Valid Code B driver’s license (advantageous).
  • Willing to take the SAPS oath of office and adhere to the Code of Conduct.

Selection Process

The competitive selection process includes:

  4. Medical Evaluation: Ensure physical and mental fitness for police duties.
