The South African Police Service (SAPS) invites unemployed graduates to apply for the 24-month Workplace Integrated Learning (WIL) Internship Programme funded by the Safety and Security Sector Education and Training Authority (SASSETA).

This internship forms part of the National Human Resource Development Strategy and National Skills Development Strategy, offering valuable workplace exposure within SAPS divisions nationwide.

  • Locations: Various Provinces Across South Africa

Generic Requirements for SAPS Graduate Internship

Applicants applying for SAPS Graduate Internship must :

  • Be a South African citizen (18–35 years old)
  • Have a National Senior Certificate (Matric/NCV L4)
  • Have no criminal record or pending cases
  • Be unemployed
  • Never participated in a relevant internship programme
  • Apply for a maximum of three (3) posts (separate application per reference number)

Available SAPS Graduate Internship Categories

Social Work Intern (16 Posts) – SAPS Academies

Locations: Bhisho, Bishop Lavis, Graaff-Reinet, Mthatha, Oudtshoorn, Ulundi, Tshwane, Phillipi

Requirements:

  • BA Social Work Degree (NQF 6 or higher)
  • Registered with South African Council for Social Service Professions (SACSSP)
  • Valid 2025/2026 registration fees paid
  • Computer literacy (MS Word & PowerPoint advantageous)

Core Functions:

  • Provide occupational social work services
  • Implement preventative and restorative interventions
  • Promote employee wellbeing
  • Work under supervision of a qualified social worker

Psychologist / Trauma Counsellor Intern (13 Posts)

Locations: Bhisho, Bishop Lavis, Graaff-Reinet, Mthatha, Oudtshoorn, Ulundi, Tshwane, Phillipi

Requirements:

  • Honours / B Psych Degree in Psychology
  • Registered with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA)
  • Valid 2025/2026 registration

Core Functions:

  • Provide counselling and trauma debriefing services
  • Facilitate mental health programmes
  • Deliver Employee Health & Wellness (EHW) services
  • Support SAPS members and families

Crime Intelligence Analyst Intern (8 Posts)

Locations: Bloemfontein, Johannesburg, Durban, Polokwane, Nelspruit, Kimberley, Potchefstroom, Bishop Lavis

Requirements:

  • 3-Year Diploma/Degree in Sociology, Criminology, Political Science (NQF 6+)

Core Functions:

  • Assist in crime intelligence analysis
  • Compile threat and risk assessments
  • Generate intelligence reports
  • Support crime stability monitoring

Internal Audit Intern (9 Posts)

Locations: Pretoria, Polokwane, Potchefstroom, Bloemfontein, Durban, Cape Town, Kimberley, Nelspruit, East London

Requirements:

  • Diploma/Degree in Internal Audit, Accounting, Finance, IT or related (NQF 6+)

Core Functions:

  • Conduct risk assessments
  • Assist with audit planning and execution
  • Compile audit findings and reports
  • Maintain audit documentation

Risk Management Practitioner Intern (2 Posts)

Location: Head Office, Pretoria

Requirements:

  • Diploma/Degree in Risk Management, Internal Audit, Finance, Business Continuity

Core Functions:

  • Assist with risk assessments
  • Support business continuity planning
  • Facilitate risk reports
  • Maintain Risk Management Systems

Integrity Management Practitioner Intern (2 Posts)

Location: Head Office, Pretoria

Requirements:

  • Diploma/Degree in Public Administration, HR, Risk Management, Law, Forensic Investigation or related

Core Functions:

  • Assist with financial disclosures and ethics administration
  • Support lifestyle audits
  • Monitor unethical conduct trends
  • Compile investigation reports
  • Maintain Case Management System
